Director Bryan Singer and screenwriter McQuarrie, who previously united for The Usual Suspects and Valkyrie, will team up again for the fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Killer. Heat Vision reports that McQuarrie will write a new draft of the film which re-tells the “Jack and the Beanstalk” fairy tale as “a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants’ kingdom in hope of rescuing her.” No word yet on how many “magic beans” jokes the film will attempt or the number of “goose that laid the golden eggs” references critics will make when it comes time to review the picture.
Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard and Darren Lemke (Gemini Man) handled previous drafts of the script. Singer was also attached to direct X-Men: First Class but had to drop down to only a producing capacity due to his obligation to Giant Killer, which begins shooting this summer. McQuarrie is also handling the screenplay for Wolverine 2.
