Note: Due to interviewing over 30 people and being provided with movie clips to almost every film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, it’s taken some time to post everything on the site. The goal is to be finished with all the Sundance stuff this week. In case you’ve missed clips or video interviews, look for a big wrap-up article when it’s all online.

Premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was the documentary “The September Issue”. The film was made by director R.J. Cutler and it’s about Vogue magazine’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and the behind the scenes of making their famous September Issue.

For those not familiar with Vogue, their September Issue is their biggest of the year. It’s read by over ten million people and the 2007 issue weighed four pounds. Also, in case you don’t know who Anna Wintour is…if you ever saw “The Devil Wears Parada”, she’s who Miranda Priestly is based on.

With how popular fashion is, and the fact that R.J. got unprecedented access to both Anna and the inner working of Vogue, “The September Issue” was one of the big documentaries playing this year.

Anyway, while at the fest I got to sit down with R.J. and talk about everything. If you’re into Vogue and fashion, you’ll love the interview.

And one last thing, below the interview is a clip from the movie. Make sure to check it out as well.

Director R.J. Cutler - Part 1

  • He talks about how he’s never been at Sundance with a feature…he’s had a lot of shorts and he’s produced a few movies that have been in the fest
  • Is he one of those people that’s really into the world of fashion
  • I ask about his initial conversations with Anna and how the project came together
  • I ask when did he do the interview with Anna that’s at the beginning and end of the movie
  • He talks about how he has final cut on all his films

Director R.J. Cutler – Part 2

  • We talk about was he nervous the first time he met Anna and did anyone tells him he should be nervous when meeting her – he tells a great, funny story
  • Did he have any storyline that he almost put in the movie but he ended up cutting it out – also he talks about the editing process
  • Does the film have distribution – he says with his partnership with A&E, it’s going to play for everyone to see no matter what
