Director Stephen Norrington Provides Updates on His Version of THE CROW

crow_comic_book_image_01.jpgMaking his first film since 2003′s disastrous League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, director Stephen Norrington signed on in 2008 to direct a new adaptation of comic creator James O’Barr’s The CrowMania [via ShockTillYouDrop] recently spoke to Norrington and learned some new updates on the project.  Norrintgon says he will make it his next project, following up with of his supernatural World War II pic called The Lost Patrol, which we reported on last month.  The director revealed that The Crow is moving towards a greenlight from Relativity Media, the studio developing the flick.  Says Norrington:

The producer and visual effects people are crunching numbers. We’ve opened discussions with major cast but nothing is final yet…[We're hoping] to shoot in the summer, but nothing’s certain…Cast and budget and schedules will no doubt continue to adjust all equations.

For those who don’t know about The Crow, the story follows a supernatural goth avenger, looking to punish those responsible for the death of his fiancé.  Unlike Alex Proyas’ 1994 adaptation, Norrington’s version would “take on the mythology that focuses on a new set of characters.”

Boo, I'm sick of seeing all these terrible The Crow reboots that are forsaking the name of the original.

They need to quit this crap. If the film is good, then so be it, but thus far its all been terrible… I was hoping they would just give up by now.

I just saw the original recently and there is absolutely NO REASON for a reboot or remake. The sad thing is Hollywood doesn't give a shit about anything but their bottom line so it will get made which is sad because it takes away from Brandon Lees' very small film legacy.

Alex Proya's The Crow is a masterpiece. It shouldn't be rebooted.

Just rerelease Proyas' version, it kicks ass even for todays (16 years later) standards, its a miracle of a film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and nothing can be compared to it.

    RIP BRANDON LEE

Well the director thinks the movie will be terrific and he apparently also had a hand in producing the original 1994′s The Crow. That movie was incredible and my favorite film. But I say give the remake a chance and I really hope its great.

Of course the director thinks the movie will be terrific, he’s making it. I will give it a chance obviously, but I’m not getting my hopes up and I just hope if it fails it does so silently, don’t need to give anymore kids a reason not to watch the original.
