Disney's Bob the Musical has been shuffling through creative talent for a few years now. Having been in development since at least 2004, the film centers on a Regular Joe Bob who can suddenly hear the inner songs of everyone around him after he gets bonked on the head. Tom Cruise has been circling the lead since late April, with director Michel Hazanavicius on board to direct, but this wasn't always the case.

Back in the halcyon days of 2010, when Phil Lord and Chris Miller were coming off of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and fielding new offers, they were in talks to direct Bob, replacing Adam Shankman and Mark Waters. At the time, Marc Shaiman was attached to write the film's music and lyrics, with Mike Bender, Babaloo Mandel and Lowell Ganz having drafted the script. Now, the creative team behind the scenes has been shored up a bit more.

As THR reports, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon is in talks to work on the comedy, and Oscar-winning composer Bret McKenzie will take a crack at the music. Chabon has done a fair bit of screenwriting work in the past, including 2004's Spider-Man 2 and Disney's 2012 movie John Carter. He has other Disney projects in development, including 20,000 Leagues under the Sea and Jon Favreau's Magic Kingdom; the deal for the latter film closed over four years ago. As for McKenzie, he won an Oscar for his musical work on Disney's 2011 film The Muppets and composed the soundtrack for the follow up, 2014's The Muppets Most WantedBob the Musical also has Tripp Vinson, Chris Bender, JC Spink, and Beau Flynn on board as producers.
