Last year, Disney released Disney Infinity, a video game that uses figurines and an electronic pad to interact with the game. For example, if you have Jack Sparrow and Mike Wazowski figurines, you can put them on the pads, and they’ll go into the on-screen game. There are other aspects to the gameplay, and overall it’s a neat concept. While the game itself received mixed reviews, the figurines are incredibly well made, and available to buy separate from the game. With the exception of Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lone Ranger Disney has gone to its animated library for Infinity, but the mammoth company also owns Marvel and Star Wars, and now characters from those universes may be getting in on the action.

New versions of Infinity featuring characters from Disney’s Marvel superhero unit and the Star Wars universe it acquired along with Lucasfilm in 2012 are being developed, one of these people said.
“These people” are reportedly sources close to Disney Interactive, but there are no specifics on what “new versions” mean. It could mean an expansion, which would seem to be the reasonable place to go. The whole idea behind Infinity is crossing between Disney worlds. However, Disney may want to create entirely new spinoffs with better graphics, better gameplay, etc. and if you want gamers to set aside the previous game and its figures, you need a tempting product. A series of Marvel and Star Wars figures would be mighty tempting, although again, it’s not clear if these worlds could cross over.
As I said, even if you’re not a gamer, the figures themselves are still pretty sweet, and I’d be excited to see the “Infinity” versions of Marvel and Star Wars characters.
