Disney is looking to strike gold yet again with another inspirational true story. Erin Brockovich screenwriter Susannah Grant has been set to write a script based on the true story of Texas high school theater teacher Lynn Shaw. Shaw took it upon herself to transform the less than functioning theater department at the school into one of the top theater programs in the country. Sadly, Shaw passed away from cancer in 2009 after having beaten the disease nine years earlier. Producer Alfred Gough had this to say about the project:

"It was one of those stories where we said, 'This is a movie.’ Neither [Producer] Miles [Millar] nor I are huge sports people but it was a way to capture the emotion of those movies that appeal to a wide audience. For us, (Shaw's story) also falls into that kind of vein, but as opposed to a coach-players relationship, it's a teacher-students relationship."

Variety’s report doesn’t state whether a director is attached to the project yet, but considering they’re just now hiring a screenwriter the film could be a ways from production. Given the smash-hit status of Fox’s high school theater/music-themed TV show Glee, this film seems likely to be quite the hit for the Mouse House.
