Disney announced a new upcoming animated film earlier today at the D23 convention.  Tangled director Byron Howard is onboard to helm Zootopia, which is described as a buddy action comedy that takes place in a world entirely inhabited by animals.  Jared Bush (All of Us) is writing the script, and the story plays out against the backdrop of a contemporary setting in which animals take on anthropomorphic characteristics (ie. they wear clothes).  The main characters of Zootopia are Nick Wilde, a fox, and Judy Hopps, a bunny, and the official logline is as follows:

In the animal city of Zootopia, a fast-talking fox who’s trying to make it big goes on the run when he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Zootopia’s top cop, a self-righteous rabbit, is hot on his tail, but when both become targets of a conspiracy, they’re forced to team up and discover even natural enemies can become best friends.

Zootopia will be released sometime in 2016 by Disney Animation Studios.  Look for our full coverage from the D23 convention later today, including panel recaps and interviews.  Hit the jump to get a look at the concept art for the film.
