Filming on Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained is gearing up and actor Garrett Dillahunt has the TwitPics to prove it.  The film has been described as a “southern”: a spaghetti western set in the Old South.  Jamie Foxx stars a Django, an escaped slave who goes to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from a sadistic plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio) by teaming up with a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz).  As you can see from the photos, the Santa Clarita Melody Ranch looks like the set of a western town, which makes sense since it’s the same set from HBO’s sorely-missed western drama Deadwood, which also stars Dillahunt (in two different roles!).  Tarantino recently told the LA Times, “It’s a blast shooting here. Most other western towns look like dollhouses. This has the complete look. It’s fantastic.”

I haven’t read the script so I don’t know if Django heads out west at some point in the story, but that set looks like a place set in the West rather than the South.  Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, M.C. Gainey, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, Tom Savini, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Joseph Gordon-LevittDjango Unchained opens December 25th.

I’m really glad that Tarantino.. is in the 661 area code… can’t wait to hear the gun shots from around the corner.

That’s certainly going to save a right chunk of change on building a whole Western town set – hey presto, we’ll use one already built, Harvey Weinstein will be thrilled, the tightwad!!!

Look for this to easily be one of the best movies of 2012. Read the script, by far one of my favorites. There are several badass scenes that take place in the western towns mixed in with Tarantino’s style… Gonna be amazing.

This looks like where that shot the TV show Kid Nation. Which was the best reality TV show ever.
