How cool is your family?  For instance, if the new Quentin Tarantino movie opened on Christmas Day, would you have to ditch the folks for a couple hours, or could you bring them along?  The Weinstein Company will put these family ties to the test with a December 25, 2012 release date for Django Unhcained [Box Office Mojo].  The supporting cast is mostly set: Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, and Leonardo DiCaprio are all on board or about to be barring any sticking points in negotiations.  Much less certain is who will play Django, the freed slave taught the tricks of the trade by a German bounty hunter (Waltz) to liberate his wife from an evil plantation owner (DiCaprio).  Will Smith was the early frontrunner, though a deal has not come easy.  More recently, Idris Elba, Chris Tucker, and Jamie Foxx came up as possible DjangosShowbiz 411 hears Foxx is the closest to the role, but all is heresay until it’s in the trades.  Production is scheduled for later this summer or early fall — with the finish line in place, we’ll meet our Django soon enough.

Christmas Day is a Tuesday in 2012.  As of this writing, Django Unchained has the holiday all to itself, but Hunter Killer, Life of Pi, and The Lone Ranger open the Friday before, December 21.

Now I really hope the world doesn’t end.

Wouldn’t that be like a week after the Hobbit opens?
Counter programing there I suppose. I think I’ll be watching The Hobbit for the second time that weekend though I’m affraid.

Terrible idea. Jackie Brown also opened on Christmas Day and that didn’t turn out well. They should at least platform it through November and go wide in December.

i’m just shocked to see life of pi in there. i didn’t think it would ever get made. of course, there’s still time for it to not get made…

The Christmas release date shouldn’t be a problem. At least it’s not a Kwanzaa release date!!! *BA-DUM KSSSH* Too soon? (I’m black)

the actors being considered for the part of Django are pretty overrated. How about Chiwetel Ejiofor? or Anthony Mackie??? or perhaps even Djimon Hounsou? please… Not Will Smith or Jamie Foxx!

I hope it’s not Foxx. It’s not that I don’t think he is a good actor, it’s just that I’ve never thought of him as an amazing actor. But if QT wants him then I’m sure it will be fine.

    Chiwetel Ejiofor sounds interesting.

I’m afraid that the studio would want a Bigger name though.

The studio doesn’t need a bigger name if they have DiCaprio lined up to play the villain.

you know what this means.. if the three gets nominated(and delivers damn good films as good as their previous one).. we’ll get a directors roundtable consisting of the three following filmmakers.

    Christopher Nolan
    Quentin Tarantino
    and Paul Thomas Anderson

the latter two, i’d pay to watch them talk about movies they love. add Nolan to the mix, and it would be nice to know what Tarantino and PTA thought of Nolan’s films(the hottest filmmaker since the latter two boomed in the 90s)

i just had a realization.. so this means Tarantino won’t premiere it at Cannes.. the gap is TOO long(may – december)..

on the plus side, this gives DiCaprio a chance to be part of the film.. Gatsby shoots later this year. QT can shoot Django early next year.. EVERYBODY’S HAPPY!. but we need a star to go ahead with a star. come on Willy! accept the offer. if not, get Leo’s buddy Jamie Foxx!

I love how people are like oh no, Not Jamie Foxx. No one here’s worried about the fact that Chris Tucker is on the list? Christ, thats the worst black actor you could find.
