The first trailer for Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained has landed online.  The film stars Jamie Foxx as the titular Django, an escaped slave who goes to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from sadistic plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) by teaming up with bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz).  This trailer is quintessential Tarantino with killer music choices, flowery dialogue, and atmosphere galore.  Waltz is actually front and center here, and it’s great to see him spouting Tarnatino’s words with such cheerfulness once again.  Foxx looks to be in fine form as our protagonist, but I’m eager to see more of DiCaprio’s performance as the dastardly plantation owner.  Nevertheless, I love everything about this first footage and if the trailer doesn’t bring a big smile to your face, then you’re probably dead inside.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, M.C. Gainey, Walton Goggins, Garrett Dillahunt, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, and Tom SaviniDjango Unchained opens on December 25th.

Official synopsis:

django-unchained-poster

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, “Django Unchained” stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival…

Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Quentin Tarantino, DJANGO UNCHAINED is produced by Stacey Sher, Pilar Savone and Reginald Hudlin. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole. DJANGO UNCHAINED will be released in the U.S. on December 25, 2012, and internationally by Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Such bullsh*t. What difference does it make what time its released. Sure somebody “jumped the gun” and they had to “take action and have it removed.

weird I just saw it, and then it was gone. Any who, I bet Will Smith feels real dumb about now for not taking this role

    • Corin Prendiville

You have to understand that Will Smith’s last western was Wild Wild West, his worst career move to-date. Though I’m now convinced his second one will have been passing up a Tarantino film to get in a boat with sinking director Shyamalan.

  • Vic Vega

It was on for a little bit, luckily I got to see it.
Looks great as always from QT.

December is looking better than almost all of this summers showings…

It’s time for leo to get that oscar.

    • Jesus

Seriously? His performance in those clips was utter crap.

      • blair

definitely awful. foxx seems miami-vice-all-over-again uncharismatic, and imagine borat (if he made it in the movie) next to waltz for the duelling of awful accents.

      • junierizzle

        You’re utter crap.

  • charles b

    Fuck. Yes.

  • somejackball

Franco Nero cameo, was wondering if they’d do that

  • Roberto

What does Leonardo Dicaprio says in the end regarding Jamie Foxx?

    • emily

“he is a rambunctious sort, ain’t he?”

      either that or maybe soul.

  • gort

Ugh it’s so vapid and boring. This artist is done.

  • Doug

“Hit the jump to watch the trailer”. What the hell does that even mean, allegedly professional writer?

    • Dave

All of Collider’s articles are shown on the front page, but not in their full extend. By “hit the jump” they mean “Go to the full article(and not just this preview of the article, that you might be reading right now)”

    • lulzatron

What Dave said. Maybe you should spend more than 5 minutes on the site before you go trashing people.

  • Strong Enough

The script is amazing but i knew it would be kinda hard to cut a trailer from what I read.

    but i can;t wait

  • will

DiCaprio looks a bit over-the-top, but something tells me that a Tarantino trailer is tough to cut without it looking silly. Can’t wait anyway.

  • j

Looks awesome… I’d watch anything from Tarantino

The tone coming from the trailer is the same I got from Basterds

This gonna be off the f**king chain

(only realised the pun after I typed it)

Crappy trailer for sure, but I’m sure it’ll be a blast. Gotta say, I really really wish Will Smith had grown the stones to take the role. Jamie Foxx is good and all, but we already know him as a bad ass, gritty character. To see Will Smith with that hair, and saying the line ‘killing white folks and getting paid for it? what’s not to like’ – that must have been a huge part of QT’s inspiration to do the film. Still, I’m sure it’ll be fun as hell.

It is the best time to make some plans for the long run and it’s time to be happy. I’ve learn this post and if I may just I want to recommend you some fascinating issues or advice. Perhaps you could write next articles relating to this article. I wish to read more issues about it!

  • Richard of Norway

I think I may be the only one who was completely underwhelmed by this. :(

Jamie Foxx wasn’t nearly badass enough. Too much Waltz, not enough Foxx and DiCaprio. I hope this isn’t a true taste of the film or it might be the very first Tarantino-directed movie I don’t absolutely LOVE.
