At this point, the question isn’t who’s in Avengers: Infinity War, but who isn’t? This is a massive crossover event, and the threat of Thanos is supposed to draw in everyone from all corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’re not exactly sure how they’ll all be brought together, but this is the culmination of Marvel’s plan since Thanos grinned at us at the end of The Avengers.

So perhaps it’s not too much of a surprise that Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed that Doctor Strange will be showing up in Infinity War. In an interview with Empire [via Daily Express] on the set of Doctor Strange, Cumberbatch was asked what was next for the Sorcerer Supreme. He replied that it was the, “logistical challenge of aligning his schedule with those of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany,” adding, “To get us all together will be quite something. That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter.”

Magic is the next frontier in the MCU. Thor flirted with it a bit, but decided it would just be easier to say that magic was hyper-advanced technology, thus keeping Thor in the realm of sci-fi rather than fantasy, which was a sound decision. The trouble with magic is that it defies reality and yet it still needs rules within a story. That can be a tricky balance to pull off, but it’s probably going to be essential in dealing with the threat the Infinity Stones pose.

We’ll get a better idea of how the MCU handles magic when Doctor Strange opens on November 4th. Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018.

Here's the official synopsis for Doctor Strange:

From Marvel comes “Doctor Strange,” the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place—a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long Strange—armed with newly acquired magical powers—is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence. Join Strange on his dangerous, mystifying, and totally mind-bending journey when Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” opens in U.S. theaters on November 4, 2016.
