Marvel has released a new trailer for Doctor Strange as part of their show-stopping Comic-Con 2016 panel. The film introduces the latest superhero in the MCU lineup, Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), a brilliant surgeon who discovers the realms of magic and alternate dimensions after his hands become crippled in a devastating accident.
This is a much fuller trailer as it focuses on the mentor/mentee relationship between Cumberbatch's Strange and Tilda Swinton's The Ancient One, who teaches him the ways of mysticism that allow him to travel through dimensions and time. There's no question that this could be a game-changer for Marvel, both in terms of story possibilities (time-travel is a big box to open in the MCU) and visuals. Scott Derrickson, the filmmaker behind Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, is behind the camera on this one, and it certainly stands as his biggest film yet. Visually it looks quite stunning, but I remain a bit more reserved on the film as a whole. Should be interesting nonetheless.
Check out the trailer below. Derrickson directs from a script by Prometheus scribe Jon Spaihts (which was later touched up by Sinister‘s Robert C. Cargill). Doctor Strange also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Mads Mikkelsen, Rachael McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Scott Adkins, and Amy Landecker. The film is set to arrive in theaters November 4th.
