Doctor Who fans could be in for more than one shock when the new season begins.  They'll already have to adjust to the new Doctor played by Peter Capaldi, and now there's an unusual choice behind the camera for the first two episodes.  According to Screen Daily, Ben Wheatley, the director behind the gruesomely violent Kill List and the darkly hilarious Sightseers, will helm the first two episodes of the new season.  I've only watched a couple episodes, but they didn't strike me as something that would invite a scene where the Doctor would graphically break apart someone's face with a sonic screwdriver.  For the Doctor Who fans, is this a plausible scenario?

The new season of Doctor Who will begin filming in December for a fall 2014 premiere.  Wheatley is also attached to the HBO drama series Silk Road, an adaptation of J.G. Ballard's High Rise, and his first U.S. feature, Freakshift, which is "about a band of misfits who hunt down and kill nocturnal monsters."
