Apparently, even all the beautiful women he’s surrounded by on Big Love aren’t enough to get Twister out of Bill Paxton’s mind, but does he really think anyone in the world would want to see a sequel to that unnatural disaster? According to an interview with Bullz-Eye, the answer is, “Yes.” In an interview to promote the HBO show’s Sunday night season premiere, Paxton said he got the inspiration for the idea from a trip to the Ozark Mountains last Spring, and has already talked with movie bigwig Kathleen Kennedy about it. Here’s what Paxton had to say to Bullz-Eye:
“I flew into St. Louis with my buddy Scott Thomson, who played Preacher in Twister, and we rented a car and drove down to southeastern Missouri, into the Ozarks,” said Paxton. “We spent the night, and the next morning we got up and we started tracking the trail of the most famous tornado that ever hit the country, which was the Tri-State Tornado of 1925. … The biggest one was Murphysboro … it literally looked like Hiroshima after it hit. And then it went across the Wabash, into Indiana, staying on the ground three and a half hours and cutting a damage path 219 miles long, killing about 700 people. There’s actually footage that I found in Murphysboro at their historical society. They had footage from a biplane that the government sent down, just to do aerial footage of all of the destruction and the damage. So we just did that to kind of get some ideas, and from that I kind of extrapolated an idea for a sequel.”
Really? Seeing the historical evidence of something you actually compare to “Hiroshima” only puts you in the mood for something as silly as a Twister 2. Sheesh. Along with the historical footage of the Tri-State tornado of 1925, Paxton’s Twister 2 idea was, as seems to be the case with just about every other movie idea that hits the streets these days, also inspired by the power of 3D.
“That would need Steven Spielberg’s blessing, ultimately, and they probably won’t take it to him ’til there’s real studio interest, but I think the 3D applications of that could obviously be pretty amazing.”
OK, fair enough, but, amazingly, Paxton also wants the movie inspired by this obvious tragedy to have some of the “humor” that he at least saw in the original.
“I think you’d still want to have a lot of the dark humor and all of that, with the flying cows and everything,” he said, with a laugh. “I think you could kind of intrigue people more by getting into a little more of the lore and really understanding. I just think there’s a lot more to explore there. When I researched the first film when I was getting ready to do it, I just found so much stuff. Ultimately, I was happy with Twister, but I also had thought that it could’ve gotten a little deeper into it.”
I generally look on sequels with less scorn than remakes, but this one just seems so completely unnecessary. You do, however, at least have to give Paxton some credit for his apparent excitement for the potential project, but that still doesn’t make it any more appealing. What do you think?

They should sign Paxton up for the sequel…then tell him it's about the game Twister.
I say, fuck yes Bill, do it. I watched Twister as a kid and it's made me decide to become a meteorologist for a living, so yeah, I'm biased. But yes, Twister 2 has always been the nerd-holy-grail to me.
Like any sane person, I LOVES me some Bill Paxton. But the only way I'd ever be interested in this if Bill wrote and directed it.
And if he could get Philip Seymour Hoffman to get back on board as 'annoying fat guy' I'd gladly declare Paxton the greatest human being ever.
I think this idea of Twister 2 is amazing. If they really get deep into it, it could be extrememly good. The first ones to me was incredible, but I think with technology today it could be way better. If they got a big producer's attention, they could make this movie huge. I think this movie would be even more fantastic if they could track down all the original actors like Helen Hunt and the others from Twister, and bring them back. They all had great chemistry together and sometimes the ratings drop when they get rid of characters or change the actors but keep the characters. This could be amazing. I hope all this works.

Listen here idiots. You would make Twister 2 in 3D If you knew what was good for. Who the hell wouldnt want to see it.? I think everyone would see it. So lets get a move on it before Bill Paxton turns 80 years old
I think it’s a kick ass idea, c’mon….”the suck zone”. For all of you frowning already on this great idea, you have to admit it would be an entertaining movie in 3D.
