Does Sony Pictures Want Logan Lerman for Director Marc Webb’s SPIDER-MAN?

Back in early February, 18-year-old Logan Lerman, the star of Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, said he was in early discussions to play Peter Parker in Sony’s reboot of the Spider-Man franchise for director Marc Webb.

Shortly after the news hit the net, Sony made sure (via THR) to let everyone know Lerman was one of many actors being considered for the role as they said, “No offers have been made, nor have any business discussions been made with Lerman.”

But a new report on HitFix says Logan Lerman is the first choice for Sony Pictures reboot and is “almost 100% locked”, but is not yet in contract negotiations for the role.  More after the jump:

In case you were not aware, Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 4 was shelved for many reasons last year.  Since that time, Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) got hired to reboot the franchise and he’s taking Peter Parker back to trying to balance school, crime fighting and girls.  The reboot is being written by James Vanderbilt (ZodiacThe Losers) and Sony has a plan to make multiple movies with the new team.

Right now the release date for the new Spider-Man movie is July 3, 2012, which means it’s time to start casting some of the key roles.

Enter Logan Lerman.

While I’d love to say I’m super happy or very upset about this casting news, I have no feelings either way about Lerman.  I saw Percy Jackson and he was fine in that.  I’m more concerned with who will be the villain and what kind of budget will Marc Webb get to play with.

But I’m sure we’ll be hearing news about all of that soon.  So…how do you feel about Logan Lerman as Peter Parker?

    Hell no.

I guess they want to go young.
I thought Anton Yelchin would have been cool. If he ain't a nerd I don't know who is.

I totally agree the villain and budget will make or break this movie franchise. Maybe they can correct the mistake of killing off spider-man's arch nemesis right off the bat. I hated it when Tim Burton killed the joker at the end of Batman( sorry for the spoiler),and I hated it when Raimi killed off the Goblin in Spider-man. Maybe Sony will get that part right with this reboot.

Sony made a HUGE mistake by rebooting the series. All 3 Spider-Man films were financially successful and were making Sony alot of money. Why the f*ck would they reboot it? Just because Spider-Man 3 wasn't as great as Spider-Man 1 or 2 doesn't mean they should just scrap the whole series and reboot it. Sony is just impatient and wanted a Spider-Man film for summer of 2012 which Raimi and the team were trying to do. Raimi didn't like the story the writers were coming up with.

He wanted to take his time and get a good story before starting production. Alot of people blamed Spider-Man 3 on him even though it WASNT his fault. The producers (mainly Avi Arad) forced Raimi to put Venom and a bunch of other stuff in the film and Raimi did what he could with all the characters he had to put in the film. Rebooting Spider-Man is the BIGGEST mistake Sony has made all year long. Raimi is a talented director and Spider-Man 2 is still one of the best superhero films of the decade. Tobey Maguire was also the perfect Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Everyone knows him as Spider-Man and to replace him with the kid from Percy Jackson is beyond stupid.

This rebooted Spider-Man flick will flop. Mark my words, us fans wont take crap from Sony anymore. Sony f*cked up their biggest franchise. Instead of waiting, they rushed and will now pay the ultimatum price of a hard flop.

It's almost like Sony wants people to hate this movie before it's even out. Every time I almost forget about it Sony comes back and reminds us just how bad this is going to suck :(

Well, I know I ain't the only one who never liked Raimi's Spidey movies. In time, you'll all come around and feel it's safe to agree with me. Case in point: When I first saw Burton's Batman, I HATED it, and was astonished to see hordes of fanboys creaming their shorts over it. Cut to: 15 years later, when, in the internet age, hordes of fanboys are trashing said films to anyone who will listen. I heard, I read, I witnessed.

Even being a fan of almost all of Raimi's other movies (except Darkman– I guess there's a pattern here), I couldn't enjoy the silliness and too-comic-bookiness of it. I certainly don't need my Spider-Man to “go dark,” as so many so-called reboots are doing, but a LITTLE more grounded in reality (such as it is) would do it for me. It's a bit of a fine line, ain't it? We shall see, we shall see. Open minds….

The first movie was good, the second was alright, the third was awful. End of story. Peter Parker could not act (forgot actors name). But the rest was well cast.

Typing “end of story” as if your opinion is the only one that is valid is silly.Almost as silly as nNark's opinion on Batman, it's your opinion and we're all entitled to one but making it seem as if your opinion has more truth than others is inane.

Anyway I enjoyed all the films (to varying degrees) but cannot muster any enthusiasm for this project and i'm not sure if i ever will. while Sony has not committed hara kiri on its own franchise as it will make more than enough money, its pointless retreading something that has been done before (in the comics/cartoons/films) and is such an obvious attempt at going for the youth market (i can only assume its going after an audience similar to twilight) first rather than creating a new story for the franchise. I remember when they Avi Arad said something like Spider-Man was a movie everyone could enjoy – this one does not seem to be heading that way and it might be less enjoyable for that

The second picture, in front of the chair, is not Logan Lerman. It's Tom Sturridge. Just so you know.

Why not let the series rest for ten to twenty years until there's a need to bring it back and a desire to see it re-invented, again?

It's just too close to the three Sam Raimi films, right now, to green-light another Spider-Man series of films.

This is what I hate about the lack of creative effort or imagination in Hollywood, currently. Tell some new stories. Create something new. Spider-Man was a comic book from the '60s that has been shown again and again in cartoons, films, and television for nearly 40 years or longer, right?

Make some new movies and some characters and stories. Does our generation not get new superheroes or do we have no imagination any longer?

I'm so f'n tired of retreads and pointless sequels and reboots just a few years after another reboot.

The picture on the right is NOT Logan Lerman. That’s Tom Sturridge, Robert Pattinson’s best friend and fellow actor. Gosh, everybody thinks they can be “journalists” nowadays.
