In magician-comedy movie news, New Line has tapped Don Scardino to make his feature directorial debut on Burt Wonderstone. Starring Steve Carell, the film revolves around a magician in Las Vegas who, after losing his partner, must compete with a new, hipper magician who appears on the strip and starts making waves. Back in February, we reported that TV director Charles McDougall had been set to direct the film, but now Deadline reports that he’s been replaced by Scardino.
A fellow television director, Scardino currently serves as one of the principal directors on NBC’s 30 Rock. He’ll be working from a script by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Horrible Bosses), who wrote the most recent draft after Chad Kultgen’s first pass at the screenplay. Production is set to begin this October in Los Angeles.
