Don’t Breathe, a very gross film that grossed a lot of money, is looking like it will get a sequel. ComingSoon spoke to director Fede Alvarez and producer Rodo Sayagues for the film’s Blu-ray release, and when asked if there would be a follow-up film, they replied:

“Is it all true?” says Alvarez. “Yeah, it’s true. We’re putting together the story right now. Obviously, there’s a book and there’s a script that’s great. Because we write everything I direct, we’re working on that part right now to make it our own and put our imprint in it so it feels like it’s part of our filmography.”

“There’s also going to be more ‘Don’t Breathe,'” adds Alvarez’s producer and co-writer Rodo Sayagues.

“We just started, but we know exactly where it goes,” Alvarez teases. “But we won’t tell you right now. But there will be more ‘Don’t Breathe’ for sure.”

You may recall that Don’t Breathe goes for the tired slasher ending where it turns out that the villain, Stephen Lang’s rapist blind man, is still alive, ready to punish/impregnate more unsuspecting victims.

It’s worth noting that Don’t Breathe 2 doesn’t have an official greenlight yet, although it did gross $150 million off a $10 million budget, and studios are always looking for successful franchises.

However, if it does get off the ground, it’s possible that Alvarez won’t direct. He’s currently being eyed to helm The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel, The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Here’s the official synopsis for that book:

Late one night, Blomkvist receives a phone call from a source claiming to have information vital to the United States. The source has been in contact with a young female superhacker—a hacker resembling someone Blomkvist knows all too well. The implications are staggering. Blomkvist, in desperate need of a scoop for Millennium, turns to Salander for help. She, as usual, has her own agenda. The secret they are both chasing is at the center of a tangled web of spies, cybercriminals, and governments around the world, and someone is prepared to kill to protect it…

Don’t Breathe hits Blu-ray on November 29th.
