With the holiday weekend behind us it’s time to give up the multinational obsession with fireworks and blowing things up so that we all finally can get back to obsessing over pop culture minutia. Fortunately that transition was made a little easier today with the release of four posters for upcoming movies that will soon be plastered all over multiplex lobbies. Today the internet has been graced with pics of the Sundance award-winner Tyrannosaur, as well as the upcoming thrillers Dream House, The Iceman, and Final Destination 5 (yes, shockingly The Final Destination didn’t end up being the final chapter in the franchise after it became a hit. Who could have seen that coming?). Hit the jump to get your required daily dose of teaser poster jollies.First up is the poster for Final Destination 5 courtesy of IMP Awards:final-destination-5-international-poster-01Pretty simple stuff and nothing too different from the previous posters we’ve seen. Once again a skull suggests that people will die, which shouldn’t be too out of place for the franchise. The film will predictably revolve around a group of people cheating death and then being sought out for spiritual reassignment by Death (the capital means it’s a being). It’s standard stuff, but the Final Destination series is normally slightly more creative that most slasher fair and always features some spectacular murder set pieces. We can guarantee now that it won’t be a masterpiece, but expect to see some nice bloody entrails before the credits roll. Final Destination 5 stars Emma Bell, Nick D’Agosto, Miles Fisher, Arlen Escarpeta, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, P.J. Byrne, Ellen Wroe, Courtney B. Vance, David Koechner, and Tony Todd.  The film opens in 3D on August 26th.The next three posters come to us from recentmovieposters.com:dream-house-movie-poster-01First up is Dream House a sort of Amityville Horror-style movie without ghosts in which a family moves into a house where a series of grisly murders took place only to end up potential victims of the murderer. The film stars Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, and Rachael Weisz and was directed by Jim Sheridan of all people. Apparently the director of My Left Foot and In America has decided to scare us this time and we’ll see how it turns out. The film was supposed to come out in February, but has been delayed many times, most notably when Daniel Craig was unavailable for reshoots due to his commitments to David Fincher’s version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. If the production troubles led to a good movie, expect a fall release. If the movie is as troubled as the production, expect it to arrive during the February dumping ground.the-iceman-movie-poster-01Next up is The Iceman the true story of notorious contract killer and charming family man Richard Kuklinski. At one time Mickey Rourke was set to tackle the lead role, but fortunately that didn’t happen. In his place we have the extraordinary and perpetually underrated Michael Shannon, who is posed to have a breakout year with lead roles in this, the apocalyptic Sundance favorite Take Shelter, and a return as the best character on Boardwalk Empire. The guy has been one of the best in the business for years and it’s about time he got more recognition. With a big role as Zod in the next Superman reboot, don’t be surprised if Shannon is an awards contender this Oscar season if The Ice Man or Take Shelter are any good. Benicio Del Toro and James Franco will star alongside Shannon in The Iceman. No release date is in place yet, but expect this puppy to premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival followed by a fall release.tyrannosaur-movie-poster-01And finally we have this lovely poster for Tyrannosaur, an award-winner at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film is the directorial debut from the great British character actor Paddy Considine and has been hailed by some as a harrowing portrayal self-destruction and dismissed by others as needlessly depressing hogwash. As a fan of the director and cast I’m looking forward to it, but it was dismissed by Matt when he saw it at Sundance, so out of website solidarity I’m required to be skeptical. Again, no official release date yet, but expect a fall release. Fall baby, fall. That’s when all the depressing movies come out.
