A new clip from the upcoming Judge Dredd reboot Dredd 3D has gone online. Though the clip is short, it should pique fan interest given that it showcases star Karl Urban uttering the character’s signature line. I caught the film at Comic-Con and thought it was fairly entertaining, but I was in the minority since most everyone else really loved it. Director Pete Travis utilizes an effect to showcase the effects of the drug “Slo-Mo” in which we watch the action play at 4000 frames-per-second, and this makes the film’s seriously brutal violence even more intense. The plot’s a bit reminiscent of The Raid, but I assume die-hard fans of the comic will be big fans of this adaptation regardless.
Hit the jump to watch the clip. The film also stars Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey. Dredd 3D will play at the Toronto Film Festival and Fantastic Fest, and opens nationwide on September 21st.
Here’s the synopsis for Dredd 3D:
The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One–a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge–a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.
