A new image has gone online of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd in Dredd.  We’ll keep bringing you these images, but it may be a good idea to assume that all of the images of Judge Dredd will look pretty much the same because: A) Urban has said that Dredd won’t remove his helmet in this adaptation; and B) It appears Dredd is partial to the frowny face.

Hit the jump to check out the image.  The film also stars Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey.  Dredd opens in 3D on September 21st.

Here’s the official synopsis for Dredd:

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

… or just watched the Sly Stallone so-called Judge Dredd ‘movie’, “that’s supposed to be me? Get my lawyers and sue for defamation of character!”

The only things they got right in that debacle was the opening twenty minutes, the scene where Fargo makes his long walk into the Cursed Earth, and the final shot of Dredd atop his Lawmaster bike with the city skyline in the background, and all that amounts to about 22 minutes out of a 96-minute film, ’nuff said!

This upcoming new one is going to be awesome, they’ve got it right on everything we’ve seen and read so far, and Karl Urban not only looks mean and ready for business as the big JD himself, he’s gonna own the role, period, I’m stoked big-time for this movie, roll on September 21st…

    Looks FANTASTIC !
As a huge fan of the comics, this looks like a great version of some of the earlier style comics. It kinda looks like 70s or 80s version, like Dirty Harry or robocop. Its definitely a Dredd “Begins” vibe.

For those unfamiliar with the comics and only know it from the Sly movie, think of it like this. Sly’s film was the Batman & Robin version, but without the better Batman films either side to compare it to. Though Slys film had some great sets, and characters etc, visually. The film failed in Dredd himself.

This version looks great, however, whether the film hits or misses, I hope it does well enough to warrant reboots/other versions that have potential based on the great comics. As in Batman, we have our Begins and TDK, but there’s also the whole Arkham city style that also needs to be filmed. Same with Dredd, it has both gritty roots as seen in earlier comics and this film, but also has THE wackiest versions of comics too with great visual style. ie Judge Death and even dinosaurs. Hell, there’s even Dredd vs Batman comics.

This isn’t a new image. This is the first image that was released over a year ago but now has text all over it.

No, it’s not the same as the first image that was released which was a rehearsal photo. It’s a different angle and background. The one above is indeed old but it was published last October in Empire.
