We’ve seen a glimpse of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd in Dredd but now an official image has gone online.  Like the previous image, he looks like the comic book character.  The real question is whether or not this re-adaptation can convince audiences—or at least audiences who still remember—that this is not going to be like the atrocious 1995 Sylvester Stallone film.  We’ve heard that this one will be far more faithful the comic and that Urban will never remove his helmet in the movie.

Hit the jump to check out the image and click here for Steve’s recent interview with Urban where he spoke about the film.  Dredd also stars  Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey.

Here’s the official synopsis for Dredd:

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

His head looks a bit small or something.

  • ozzie

dammit … he’s a doctor not law enforcement agent!

Not enough chin or head or actor! At least Stallone look exactly like the character too bad the movie wasn´t good even when has its moments, the only thing i agree is, don´t remove the helmet from the man.

helmets way too big, other than that looking good though

The internet is certainly one of mankind’s greatest achievements to date… such a shame it’s populated so vastly with whiney little bitches who pepper that place with negativity and moaning.

“I have read the script (by Alex Garland) and seen Jock’s visuals. While I can’t go into detail about the content I can say that it’s high-octane, edge of the seat stuff, and gives a far truer representation of Dredd than the first movie. ” John Wagner has signed off the image, Jock designed the look. Quit moaning until you’ve seen the full ‘moving picture’

People People, it’s a helmet, not a mask. It’s supposed to be big to protect the head. Got to admit, he lacks the chin, though I guess I am ruined by Stallone (who looks the part, but the movie was awful). I want to see the trailer first though

The suit is awesome but to be honest, I think the Stallone suit version is way better expect Tobin removing his helmet.

I hope this reboot works and stays true to comic books even I hope Karl Urban does a great job as Judge Dredd.

I thought the Stallone movie was great even it didn’t stay to true to the comic books.

  • JUDGE MINTY

Google JUDGE MINTY, or better still, you tube it.. Be interesting to see if THIS Dredd film can top that Dredd-fan-film(Thats actually made by 2000AD) Both look damn great.

p.s. Read some DREDD comics people, they are fantastic, gritty, twisted and violent with splashes of dark humor. (There are even Batman VS Dredd graphic novels which are cool)

And ignore the Stallone Dredd movie, it had its great parts, but the script was lousy, and rule number 1 was broken (JUDGE DREDD is NEVER seen without his helmet on)

  • Jack

Why can’t he take his helmet off in the movie? I imagine we’ll want to see some of Steed’s personal life and backstory, yeah? A 2 dimensional character who always wears a helmet isn’t very realistic.

    • Dreddfan

      Who the hell is Steed?

In the comic, Dredd wears the helmet at all times to portray the faceless nature of the law. He has no personal life, and his back story would consist of him being in the Justice Academy.

Too thin. the costume must be awe inspiring. He is the Law! ^^

    • Alex-mansy

The comic costume as aweinspiring works in the comics but actually for enforcing the law on the streets. Hence why Stallones outfit looked silly.

This outfit seems alot more practical and you can bet that helmet is a minicomputer with all types of vision modes and perhaps if they designed it well a ‘see face clearly’ option.

It’s alright to run around faceless for intimidation purposes. But once you start executing people they should be allowed to face their accuser and executioner. (see their face) It’s the law after all.
