On second thought, Shane Black isn’t writing Iron Man 3. Black, the writer/director behind Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, is still on board to helm Marvel’s third installment, however, Deadline is reporting that scribe Drew Pearce has been brought on to pen the script. Pearce has experience working with Marvel material as he wrote the script for Runaways based on Brian K. Vaughan’s imprint favorite revolving around super-powered adolescents who attempt to take down their parents’ crime ring. Additionally, Pearce was the creator of the UK television series No Heroics.
Per the report, Pearce will “start from scratch and work closely with Black” on the Iron Man 3 screenplay. This is perhaps comforting news for those who were excited about the prospect of Black handling the writing duties as well as directing. Regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing what the Black/Pearce team can come up with to reignite my interest in the franchise. Iron Man 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2013.
