FilmDistrict has released the red band trailer for Drive that premiered today at Comic-Con.  Matt raved about the trailer in his recap of the panel, and I wholeheartedly agree: a terrific tease for the film.  Everyone at Cannes and the LA Film Festival loved it.  It will screen again later tonight at Comic-Con, another place where I am not.  September 16 is the release date for us common folk.  Marking the days…

Ryan Gosling stars as a stunt driver who moonlights as a wheelman for criminals.  When he agrees to help the husband of his beautiful neighbor (Carey Mulligan), matters go awry and he must protect the neighbor and her son.  Christina Hendricks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman, Oscar Isaac, and Albert Brooks also star in Drive, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

Official synopsis:

“Drive” is the story of a Hollywood stunt driver by day (Gosling), a loner by nature, who moonlights as a top-notch getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld. He finds himself a target for some of LA’s most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the husband of his beautiful neighbor, Irene (Mulligan). When the job goes dangerously awry, the only way he can keep Irene and her son alive is to do what he does best—Drive!

  1. seems alright, nothing special. THIS is what everyone’s been raving about for a couple of months now? weird.

    • Yeah have the same impressions. For the note I’ve loved every single Refn’s movie so far (well except Valhalla).

Maybe the music’s the thing that hits it out the ballpark. John Carpenter-like theme in the background is very badass.

  2. Nice! Looks like it’ll be a very solid, entertaining film. I’m definitely seeing it. Gosling is the new de Niro? I wouldn’t go that far, but I do think he’s shaping up to be one of the better leading men in hollywood.

  3. He’s no the new De Niro, but his performance in Blue Valentine is the best thing (besides DDL in There Will Be Blood) that i’ve seen by a leading actor in 10 years. He’ll continue to be amazing, because like the best actors that are intelligent, they are picky and choose roles and movies and in this case, directors that are great.

This is going to be outstanding.
