Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for the Todd Phillips comedy Due Date starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis.  It’s not bad a trailer and there are some good laughs.  However, I’m hoping that we’ll get at least one red-band trailer for the film because I think that’s the best opportunity to get a good sense of the humor.  As it stands, you have ashes in coffee cans, spitting on dogs, and all of that is fine, but I’m wondering how Due Date is going to measure up to Phillips last film, The Hangover.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Due Date opens November 5th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Due Date:

Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr.) is an expectant first-time father whose wife’s due date is a mere five days away. As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at her side for the birth, his best intentions go completely awry when a chance encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) forces Peter to hitch a ride with Ethan—on what turns out to be a cross-country road trip that will ultimately destroy several cars, numerous friendships and Peter’s last nerve.

i am waiting for this movie to release. I loved his last year movie The Hangover. It was the best comedy movie of last year. He is fantastic in comedy timing and his expression is good. I know this movie, Due Date is going to be compared with The Hangover because most of the movie goer will go expecting it to be as good as The Hangover.

I liked this film the first time when it was called Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

I love Robert Downey Jr in anything he does. We laughed our a**es off when we saw this. His funny, smart-a** attitude and Zach’s goofy one are a fantastic pairing. Without Robert to play off of Zach’s character probably wouldn’t be that funny at all. These two just play great off each other. I think Phillips did a great casting job – he truly chose two funny people and actors and placed them together. Great choices. We can’t wait to see this!
As for people thinking this is another Planes, Trains and Automobiles. It isn’t even close. Try two other great movies and watch them. It is actually more like a cross between “Rain Man” and “Midnight Run”. People should see more movies before they say it is exactly like a Martin/Candy film. This movie isn’t that much like that one. Most of the people, we know, feel it plays much more like a cross between the other two.

A businessman needs to get home to an important family event. Life conspires against him, and he finds himself having to team up with a loveable goofball (with a tragic secret) to get back to his loved ones. Businessman at first tolerates goofball but then grows to despise him, a set-up that results in many laughs. At some point businessman has epiphany and grows to love goofball.

I don’t know, maybe Shellew is right and the film as a whole plays out differently, but this trailer just screams PT&A from every frame.

Looking forward to it though. Downey Jr is fantastic, and The Hangover was awesome.

The trailer definitely screams Planes, Trains and Automobiles, but I’ll be the first to admit if I am wrong.
