First DUMB AND DUMBER TO Trailer: Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels Are Back [Updated with Images]

     June 10, 2014

Universal Pictures has released the first Dumb and Dumber To trailer for directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s comedy sequel.  The follow-up takes place 20 years after the events of the first film, with Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) setting out on a road trip in order to find the child Harry never knew he had.  As it turns out, that child is a daughter, and that daughter is quite attractive, enough to stir long-dormant feelings of love in Lloyd’s poor dumb heart.  There’s a whole range of comedy on display here, from dumb, to dumber, to downright gross, but it’s exactly what you might expect from the Farrellys. I just wasn’t quite expecting them to go … there.

Dumb and Dumber To also stars Laurie Holden, Kathleen Turner, Rob Riggle, Rachel Melvin, and Steve Tom, and opens November 14th.  Hit the jump to watch the first Dumb and Dumber To trailer. [Update: We've also added some new images from the film after the jump.]

So, yeah, you’re gonna have to sound off in the comments section for this one.  I’m a big fan of the original film, as I’m sure you are, but maybe this sequel missed its window of opportunity sometime in the last 20 years.  I’ll admit that I laughed quite a few times, but I was also distracted by just how much older Carrey (52) and Daniels (59) look when they’re back in their Harry and Lloyd form.  I’m sure there are plenty more laughs to be found in the film itself than those on display in the trailer, I’m just hoping that the Farrellys aren’t opting to rest on a tired rehash of old jokes that worked in 1994 without any freshening up for today’s jaded audiences.

Here’s the official synopsis for Dumb and Dumber To:

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: Dumb and Dumber To.  The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.

  • Manchego Cheese

Not bad. I’ll be there, if only to support the fact this film was actually made.

  • Matt

While I love “Dumb and Dumber”, this looks like absolute garbage. I could be wrong…

  • Matty

The jokes in the trailer aren’t great but I have a lot of hope for this movie. Didn’t the screening audiences love it?

    • pvalles410

yeah i remember reading it was non-stop laughing and overall great reviewed

      • Farrell

        early word is positive.

    • Daniel Ronczkowski

Yeah, most of the reactions were positive.

    • junierizzle

I agree. Hopefully the rest of the Jokes are better. Besides, most jokes in comedy trailers lose their zing by the time you see the movie any way.

to be honest, after the travesty that was The Three Stooges, I expected this to be terrible. This wasn’t awful by any means, and if it makes me laugh watching Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, I’m there and a happy camper. I’m not really thrilled with the cast of bums they have as supporting actors but like i said, the leads will make the movie. Here’s hoping for something good. WE all know it won’t top the first. New Farrelly’s are like the wannabes of the old Farrellys. I don’t know when they lost their way but this could at least be serviceable and not a total waste of time.

    • HeyGuy246

What the hell are you talking about? Who are you? The Three Stooges was not only the best thing they’ve done in a long time, but it was also the most charming comedy to come out the past 5 years. Dumb and Dumber To looks like it could go either way. I was surprised how great it was to See these two again (despite being a little older) and the trailer had more than a few solid laughs. I don’t remember the first one being big on the gross out humor but hey, if it’s funny, gross or not, it’ll add something to the movie.

      • To Be Continued

Well… the first one had Lloyd peeing in bottles and a cop drinking it, then Harry with the famous bathroom scene. Even Seabass spitting a hamburger so… I don’t know.

      • Norbert

It’s a greenband. Stuff like that will probably be in the redband

      • To Be Continued

The movie is PG 13, I don’t think there’s gonna be a redband trailer.

      • Norbert

I’ll be surprised if it gets a PG 13

    • MJ

The Three Stooges was fracking hilarious.

  • LL

It could go either way, really. Hopefully optimistic until reviews come in. There’s still 5 months until release.

  • Anthony Michael

Hoping this is an ultra-rare example of “all the worst parts are in the trailer.”

  • Zenexo

I don’t see how any of this is funny. But then again stupidity has never been humorous to me.

  • grapes9h5

The trailer was okay. Cant help but be happy to be getting this regardless, but I do hope its worth my money in enjoyment.

  • doctor_robot

  • Dmula

I am very excited even if they look old,I’m worried the jokes will try to be way to raunchy and over the top but I will be there hoping for the best

  • The Flobbit

The Farrelly’s are just getting dumber and dumber.

  • Lex Walker

Considering how unfunny the trailer for the original is compared to the actual movie, I’m still optimistic.

  • DEADP00L

This is PG not PG 13 but they have trouble making my movie because it’ll need to be rated R…

The grandma thing alone disturbed me to my core. I’m curious if this will test my threshold after all the Jackass movies I’ve watched.

    • Daniel Ronczkowski

      I didn’t see a rating…

  • MJ

This looks awful. Memo: ripping catheters out is just not funny..NEVER. Putting hand up Grandma not funny either.

The first movie is a charming classic of comedy. This movie looks like they ran out of ideas and are trying to ripoff Bad Grandpa, Will Ferrell, etc.

When was Carrey’s last good movie?

    • Redjester

      Eternal Sunshine, probably.

    • World’s Finest Comments

I Love You Philip Morris was probably last one where Carrey was actually trying…

      • Lex Walker

Carrey’s insurance scam pratfalls were hilarious in that movie.

  • Daniel Ronczkowski

It’s odd to say but it seems this is TOO cartoony

  • LEM

    Expectations are a helluva thing.

  • Keir Sittloh

    So you’re telling me there’s a chance

  • the king of comedy

I can understand the first movie`s appeal but I was never a big fan of that movie, I guess it`s not my cup of tea, this actually looks like they tried to do a good sequel, but I`m just not interested in this movie and usually I`m the kind of guy who gives a shot to as many movies as I can (except Twilight movies, Garfield, The Smurfs and all those movies that ruin my childhood cartoons, gave up on scary movies and all the parody movies of the same directors and also gave up on the Resident Evil movies)

    • HeyGuy246

The fact that your name is THE KING OF COMEDY and you use the phrase “not my cup of tea” proves that the first movie truly wasn’t for you. Idk if any Farrelly Brothers movie is for you haha. Furthermore, it sounds like you just need to stop watching movies altogether.

      • the king of comedy

Hahahaha well I wasn`t sure what phrase to use, I`m not a native english speaker so I guessed “not my cup of tea” was a good enough phrase to make my point, I loved There`s Something About Mary from the Farelly Brothers by the way, and love movies in general

  • ruben_roxx

For the love of all that is holy will someone please give jim carrey a gun so he can kill himself and put humanity out of its misery….

  • Witcher

    I’m SOLD!!!

  • bronsonhelm

So. Damn. Funny. Harry & Lloyd hold a special place in my heart so seeing this just makes me happy deep down. Hurry up, November

  • Abed

No Jeff Bridges No! You work with Aaron Sorkin now, you don’t have to do these types of movies anymore!

    • Clay

      Jeff Daniels*

      • Abed

        Whoops, thank’s for correcting me.

      • Lex Walker

The real Abed would never have made that mistake. You must be from the darkest timeline.

  • DNAsplitter

Farrelley brothers seem to be hit and miss lately – loved Hall Pass but hated 3 Stooges. Should be interesting to see how this turns out as this has been a passion project of theirs for the past 5 years. Jim Carrey really needs this to be a hit as he’s turned into boxoffice poison lately – w his last hit being Yes Man in ’08.

    Looks Good

    that catheter scene hurt me.

  • herpderp

Based on internet reactions this movie is going to make 200+ mil opening weekend due to the fact that it’s a freaking dumb and dumber sequel with Jim and Jeff.

  • Big Gulps

I think it’s really hard to make a trailer for a film like this. I mean watch the orginal dumb and dumber trailer, it’s not impressive either. The jokes just don’t work well cut up like that.

  • Strong Enough

Got rotten written all over it

    Looks damn funny
