Zack Sndyer may end up forever changing how I read "Watchmen" and other than the trailers and behind-the-scenes featurettes, I haven't seen frame one of his adaptation.  But that hasn't stopped me from hearing Gerard Butler's Scottish brogue in my ears as I re-read the "Tales of the Black Freighter" sections of the book.  Then again, I hear Gerard Butler's voice a lot of the time.  It's not so bad once you get used to it, although reading my shopping list and hearing that tonight I'll dine in hell is somewhat unsettling.

But I'll get to hear Mr. Butler's voice for reals on March 24th when Warner Bros. very cool indulgence of the animated "Tales of the Black Freighter" hits DVD.  Personally, I thought the wait would be much longer and that we wouldn't be seeing this until "Watchmen" itself hits DVD sometime around the end of the summer (presumably).  Furthermore, the DVD will also contain excerpts from Hollis Mason's "Under the Hood".  Some kid today saw me reading "Watchmen" and he asked "Do I have to read the non-comic parts?" to which I responded, "Only if you want the book to be less awesome."

Here's the studio's official pitch for the disc: They're in the book. And on this disc. From the director of Watchmen and 300 come two tales from the celebrated graphic novel that do not appear in the extraordinary Watchmen Theatrical Feature. Tales of the Black Freighter (featuring the voice of 300's Gerard Butler) brings to strikingly animated life the novels richly layered story-within-a-story, a daring pirate saga whose turbulent events may mirror those in the Watchmen's world. Stars from the Watchmen movie team in the amazing live-action/CGI Under the Hood, based on Nite Owl's powerful first-hand account of how the hooded adventurers came into existence. Two fan-essential stories. One place to watch the excitement. Watching the Watchmen begins here.

Check out the ad below.  I was unaware that we the fans demand that the film not be shown in theatres.
