I'll confess right now: I thought HD-DVD was going to win the HD-wars. It seemed liked studios would favor Toshiba over Sony since Toshiba doesn't own a movie studio and wouldn't function like a competitor. Moreover, Sony's track record with proprietary technology was abysmal (look at the "success" of music on MiniDisc or movies on UMD).
But as Jay Baruchel so eloquently put it in "Tropic Thunder", whoever porn backs will win the day and porn backed Blu-Ray and now HD-DVD is dead. If you thought HD-DVD was going to win, you've now probably sold those discs on the cheap, burned them in a funeral pyre, or sat on them indecisively. In this case, the indecisive win the day because Warner Bros. is allowing you to trade in your HD-DVDs of Warner Bros. films in for Blu-Ray versions at only $4.95 a pop. That's kind of a great deal and it should stop you from having to drag out your HD-DVD player every time you want to watch "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" in HD.
Click here to go from Red2Blu and hope that other studios go for a similar plan with their HD-DVD titles.
