For a few months now, we’ve been running trailers and posters for the Italian release of the English-language film Dylan Dog: Dead of Night.  Now that the movie finally has a U.S. distributor, it’s received a trailer that I can actually understand and a poster that is all kinds of generic.  I like the premise of the movie: a human detective (played by Brandon Routh) is appointed by supernatural creatures to impartially investigate crimes which happen in their underworld.  Unfortunately, that premise is undermined by the heavy reliance on Sam Huntington’s comic relief character and some truly awful special effects make-up.  Watching this trailer, I couldn’t help but wonder how this movie isn’t going straight to DVD.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  Dylan Dog: Dead of Night opens April 29th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Dylan Dog: Dead of Night:

DYLAN DOG: DEAD OF NIGHT is a new horror/comedy film based on one of the world’s most popular comics (60 million copies worldwide). Brandon Routh stars as Dylan Dog, world famous private investigator specializing in affairs of the undead. His PI business card reads “No Pulse? No Problem.” Armed with an edgy wit and carrying an arsenal of silver and wood-tipped bullets, Dylan must track down a dangerous artifact before a war ensues between his werewolf, vampire and zombie clients living undercover in the monster infested backstreets of New Orleans.

looks like a combination of hellboy and constentine ……looks like a good movie to watch 2 or 3 times. also does anybody else think brandon routh would be perfect for the fright night remake!?

    Terrible… just terrible.
They are light years away to get this right

Can’t judge a movie by its trailer….except in the case of Thor which will definitely SUCK.

  • Elitist Prick

It does have the look of Hellboy or Constantine, just with a fraction of the budget. I’m still curious to see it and it seems like it could be direct-to-DVD fun, but will certainly not be the scale that this kind of story deserves. Maybe it will be big internationally since the comic is more famous outside North America?

Hollywood destroyed yet another fantastic idea. This was meant to be a horror film. like ,,the ring,, or ,,the shining,,. hollywood can crap on American comicbooks but leave the Europe alone. this was cult comic. you have no right to do this.

I so hope this gets a UK release, this looks like it’ll be great fun.
