Mr. Church tells the beautifully human story of a unique friendship that develops when a talented cook, named Henry Joseph Church (Eddie Murphy), comes into the lives of a little girl and her dying mother. Set in Los Angeles in 1965, Mr. Church finds himself in the position of father figure to Charlotte "Charlie" Brody (Britt Robertson) and, as the six-month arrangements ends up enduring for 15 years, the unlikely pair end up learning many life lessons from each other. The relationship between Mr. Church and Charlie has its ups and downs, over the years, and while it’s great to see Eddie Murphy have the opportunity to display his expert dramatic skills, it’s a role that also has plenty of laughs, tears and heartfelt moments that have already helped spawn Oscar talk.

At the recent Los Angeles press day for the film, I got the opportunity to sit down with Eddie Murphy for an exclusive video interview. He talked about being very selective about what he’s done for the last five years, his strong reaction to the script for Mr. Church, and that there’s nothing that he’s pining to do, acting-wise. He also talked about returning to voice Donkey for another Shrek movie, what he likes to collect, and how that collection might play into his stand-up, if he ever tours again. Watch what he had to say above.

Mr. Church also stars Natascha McElhone, Lucy Fry, Xavier Samuel, and Mckenna Grace. Here’s official synopsis:

Mr. Church tells the story of a unique friendship that develops when a little girl and her dying mother retain the services of a talented cook - Henry Joseph Church. What begins as a six month arrangement instead spans into fifteen years and creates a family bond that lasts forever.
