Tom Hooper‘s adaptation of the musical Les Miserables has added another key addition to its cast. Deadline reports that Eddie Redmayne (Black Death) will play the role of Marius, a young revolutionary who falls for Cosette, even though he’s loved by the far more interesting and sympathetic Eponine. Marius is kind of a bland character, although he does get the great song “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables”. Redmayne is no stranger to period dramas having co-starred in The Other Boleyn Girl, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, the mini-series The Pillars of the Earth. He’ll next be seen in My Week with Marilyn, where Deadline says his performance “has put him in the Oscar discussion,” even though early reviews dismissed the film entirely with the exception of Michelle Williams‘ portrayal of Marilyn Monroe.
Les Miserables also stars Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, and Russell Crowe. The film is due out December 25, 2012. Hit the jump to listen to “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables”.

woohoo! Great news! So excited! Now who is going to be cosette?!?!
I hope it’s the youtube girl Haiagan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyPjII4ywaA
Cosette is kind of a bland character, imo. I’m more interested in who they cast as Eponine. I’d go with Emmy Rossum, who is around the right age for the part and definitely has the vocal chops to handle ‘On My Own’.
Why did they cast this guy?! He is so weird looking! All I can do anytime he’s in a movie is stare at his nose. Marius is supposed to be handsome, not akward-looking. UGH.
Oh my lord… can this casting get any more amazing?! I think not! =D
