Edgar Wright Programs Your 24-Hour Horror Movie Marathon

     October 25, 2011

Besides being the writer/director/producer of phenomenal films, Edgar Wright is quite the cinephile. He’s programmed a number of fantastic line-ups at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles, and he’s currently prepping a new program entitled “Films Edgar Has Never Seen.” If you’re like me, and are incredibly frustrated that you don’t live in L.A. and thus have never been able to attend an Edgar Wright-billed line-up, you’re in luck. Just in time for Halloween, Wright has put together a 24-hour horror movie marathon that you can stage on your own. The films all follow a theme, and are programmed to the specific time of day that they’ll be playing. Hit the jump to find out what they are.

edgar-wright-imageThe 15 films Wright has selected are all organized around Shakespeare’s seven ages of man (the infant, the whining schoolboy, the lover, the soldier, the justice, the age shifts, and the end of this strange eventful history). Here are the films, in order, that Wright has chosen (via The A.V. Club):

  • 6:00pm – The Brood (1979) David Cronenberg
  • 7:30pm –Don’t Look Now (1973) Nicolas Roeg
  • 9:30pm – The Innocents (1961) Jack Clayton
  • 11:15pm – Who Can Kill a Child? (1976) Narciso Ibanez Serrador
  • 1:00am – Carrie (1976) Brian De Palma
  • 2:40am – Long Weekend (1978) Colin Eggleston
  • 4:10am – Asylum (1972) Roy Ward Baker
  • 5:40am – Dawn of the Dead (1978) George A. Romero
  • 7:45am – The Omen (1976) Richard Donner
  • 9:40am – The People Under the Stairs (1991) Wes Craven
  • 11:00am – Daughters of Darkness (1971) Harry Kumel
  • 12:40pm – Seconds (1966) John Frankenheimer
  • 2:15pm – Death Line (aka Raw Meat) (1973) Gary Sherman
  • 3:45pm – The Sentinel (1977) Michael Winner
  • 5:15pm – The Manitou (1978) William Girdler

It’s a pretty stellar list, and there are a number of films on here I haven’t seen that I’m sure will be gems. Godspeed to those of you who plan on attempting this marathon. Head over to The A.V. Club to read Wright’s detailed explanations for each pick.
