Eli Roth’s done some pretty crazy things in his movies so it should come as no surprise that some pretty crazy things have happened while shooting them. With his latest directorial endeavor, Knock Knock, hitting select theaters and VOD on October 9th, I got the opportunity to talk to him about memorable moments from making some of his favorite kill scenes. He shared stories from Cabin Fever, Hostel, Hostel: Part II, The Green Inferno and one especially unforgettable mishap from the making of Aftershock.

You can hear all five stories in the video at the top of this post and, in case you missed it, click here for my full chat with Roth and Lorenza Izzo about The Green Inferno, which is currently in theaters and is an absolute must-see for fans of Roth’s work. He takes a very different approach to violence and gore in Knock Knock, but if you’re eager to see Roth stretch his legs and deliver something a little different, it’s a tight, tense home invasion thriller that features strong performances from Izzo, Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves.

Here’s a time index for the video if you’d like to skip around a bit:

  • 00:18 - Cabin Fever
  • 01:37 - Hostel
  • 02:35 - Hostel: Part II
  • 03:28 - The Green Inferno
  • 04:33 - Aftershock

And here’s the official synopsis for Knock Knock:

When a devoted husband and father is left home alone for the weekend, two stranded young women unexpectedly knock on his door for help. What starts out as a kind gesture results in a dangerous seduction and a deadly game of cat and mouse. A sexy new thriller from director Eli Roth, KNOCK KNOCK stars Keanu Reeves as the family man who falls into temptation and Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas as the seductresses who wreak havoc upon his life, turning a married man’s dark fantasy into his worst nightmare.
