Guardians of the Galaxy is one of my favorite movies of the past few years and one of my favorite Marvel movies. It’s one of those rare films that everyone seems to love and it’s due in no small part to James Gunn. Not only did Gunn write a great script filled with action and adventure, he loaded it with cool and unique characters that were able to play off one another with a lot of humor and charm. Do you remember before Guardians came out when a lot of people wondered if Marvel could make a movie with a talking tree work? Funny how all those naysayers are nowhere to be seen now.

When Marvel announced the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, I figured Gunn was going to deliver the goods, but at this year’s Comic-Con, after seeing a few clips from the upcoming sequel, I’ll admit the footage looked even better than I expected. One of the main reasons: Baby Groot. While a lot of us assumed Groot would be back to his full size in the sequel, during the writing process, Gunn figured out that by keeping him young it added a lot to the story and made the relationships with the other characters work even better. You’ve got to trust me when I say that once you see Baby Groot interacting with Rocket and Yondu, you’ll be smiling from ear to ear. (For more on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 footage that was shown in Hall H at Comic-Con, read Tommy’s recap.)

Shortly after watching the awesome footage, I landed an exclusive video interview with Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Ayesha in the sequel. As Tommy said in his recap, Ayesha, otherwise known as “Her,” is a cosmic being, engineered to be the perfect specimen. She’s actually the second attempt at crafting such a being – the first: Adam Warlock, perhaps hinting at a future appearance.

During the brief interview Debicki talked about being offered the antagonist role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2., who she plays, how she interacts with the Guardians, Baby Groot, and more. Check out what she had to say in the video above; below you’ll find some recent Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 links.
