Elizabeth Olsen Calls Prep Work for Scarlet Witch ‘So Much Fun’

by     Posted 290 days ago

Even though Joss Whedon dubbed Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) his Scarlet Witch “prototype” back in May, news surfaced in August that he had moved on to Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) for the role in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.  Despite the fact that there were reports that Olsen was in final negotiations for the part, Marvel has yet to confirm her casting.  However, just the other month, Olsen’s Oldboy co-star, Samuel L. Jackson, came right out and said, “… we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch].”  Although everything points to Olsen having snagged the part of Wanda Maximoff, one half of the brother-sister duo, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, Marvel still hasn’t made it official.

While talking to the actress for her November 27th release, Oldboy, Collider got the chance to add yet another bullet point to the list of items suggesting Olsen did indeed get the part. Continued after the jump.

elizabeth-olsen-avengersEven though she did make an effort not to spill any details, Olsen certainly didn’t deny her involvement either. When asked whether or not she’s been reading up on the character, Olsen came right out and said:

“It’s so fun. I’m having a great time. I’m having so much fun. I just feel like a little kid right now. I love it. I am a little kid, but I feel even more like one.”

When we probed for more details and asked if there’s a specific Scarlet Witch storyline she’s hoping to work with, Olsen admitted:

“I don’t know if I can – I don’t know. I’m just not gonna say anything about it because I’m like terrified of saying anything that I shouldn’t.”

So while Olsen didn’t outright say, “I’m Scarlet Witch,” her answers certainly don’t imply otherwise. Now that both Olsen’s casting and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s for Quicksilver are as close to confirmed as they come without being officially confirmed, hopefully Marvel will finally make an announcement that the pair is locked in.

Catch the clip of Olsen discussing Scarlet Witch below and keep an eye out for our full interview with the actress on Oldboy coming soon.

Elizabeth Olsen is the best Scarlet Witch of all-time!

Haha, what? The movie comes out in almost two years… How do you know how her performance is gonna be? She’s a great actress but, let’s dial back the over-enthusiasm a little, shall we?

Not a difficult achievement since she’s the first person to portray the character in a live-action feature. But whatever rocks your boat.

I hope they do real good costumes for Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. I love their comic costumes and granted, they never translate exactly on screen but I sure hope they come close.

I think I remember Whedon saying that Scarlet Witch’s costume would be different than the comics.

Edit: Here’s the quote from TotalFilm back in July…

“She might wear a headband or something that might echo [the original costume],” says Whedon. “The guys at Marvel, the conceptual artists, are phenomenal, and they are so good at taking the essence of what works and interpreting it for the actual human body.”

“When they paint something you can not only tell how it’s gonna work on a person, you can even tell what fabric it’ll be. They are very specific, very talented. So I’m excited to see the designs.”

“Obviously we want to echo the look that people know, but there’s the classic look and the Ultimates look… you have to do it in a way that will work. It can’t be too old school… she can’t wear a leotard!”

It no wonder why this dickhead of a reporter known as Perri Nemiroff and collider.com are really too slow at the news and MTV NEWS confirmed that Oslen is scarlet witch when she want that interview.
