One of our most anticipated films of this year is District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s follow-up sci-fi film Elysium. Though the film’s August release date means it will probably be this summer before we see an official trailer, we’ve already seen a couple of tantalizing images of stars Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley, and now a first look at Jodie Foster’s character has landed online. The story takes place in the year 2159 where people are divided into two classes: the wealthy live on a man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest of the humans inhabit an overpopulated and ruined Earth. Foster’s character runs Elysium, and these images give us a peek at her very corporate look. I caught a glimpse of Foster in action when we saw footage from the film at Comic-Con last year, and it looks to be quite the meaty role.
Hit the jump to check out the images. Elysium opens on August 9th.
Thanks to reader Vivek for bringing these images to our attention via Simply Jodie.
Here’s the official synopsis for Elysium:
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
