8 New Images from ELYSIUM Starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley

Following on the heels of the debut trailer and poster, Sony Pictures has released eight new images from Neill Blomkamp‘s Elysium.  The movie is set in 2159, and two classes of people are divided: the wealthy live on a man-made space station called Elysium, while the rest of the humans inhabit an overpopulated and ruined Earth.  Matt Damon plays a desperate man who must reach Elysium in order to find a cure that will save his life.  I’m digging everything I’m seeing from this film, and with four months until the release date, this is only the tip of the political-sci-fi iceberg.

Hit the jump to check out the images, and click here for Steve’s thoughts on the footage he saw yesterday.  The film also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Wagner Moura, Diego Luna, and William FichtnerElysium opens August 9th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Elysium:

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

You know what’s sad? That’s twice as funny that any joke that Goldberg has written. Wait, did I say ‘any’ joke? I meant every.

You know what’s sad? That little fanboys like you can’t get over the fact the Goldberg has different opinions than you. :(

Nah, I can accept other people’s opinions just fine. I respected Ebert, for instance, because he brought wit and insight into every article he wrote. Goldberg is just a gormless, pathetic wannabe-filmmaker who gives others lectures without the awareness of film grammar or psychology to back it up. He’s unfunny, childish and reverts to “he doesn’t understand” because he doesn’t have anything interesting to contribute to film criticism.

You know what’s REALLY sad? The fact that you can’t tell the difference between disagreeing with a person’s opinion and their approach. For instance, I don’t agree with EVERYTHING that Michael Phillips or Mark Kermode say, but I respect their wit and understanding of the film medium. Goldberg is simply pig-ignorant and unfunny, and has ZERO respect for his readership. I don’t care if he agrees or disagrees with me on a subject because his opinions come from his own arrogance and ignorance.
