It looks like Disney is eyeing Emma Watson (Harry Potter series) to don the iconic glass slipper in their live-action Cinderella picture. Saoirse Ronan, Gabrielle Wilde and Alicia Vikander were previously reportedly as being eyed for the role, though Watson is still in very early talks. Cate Blanchett is expected to play the evil stepmother and Kenneth Branagh will direct, having replaced Mark Romanek earlier this year. Disney hopes to begin shooting in London this fall for a possible 2014 release. Hit the jump for more.
Variety
reports that Watson is in early negotiations to star as the pauper-to-princess character in Disney’s Cinderella. This picture marks the latest live-action adaptation of the studio’s famous properties after finding success with Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and hoping to replicate it with Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful and the Sleeping Beauty-inspired Maleficent with Angelina Jolie.
Watson recently starred in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and completed her roles in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, as well as Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s comedy This Is the End. Watson recently signed on for Your Voice in My Head, which previously had David Yates attached to direct. Stanley Tucci is expected to star opposite Watson in the movie based on the memoir by Emma Forrest.
