Emmy Nominations Announced – Many First Time Nominations and 30 ROCK Gets 22!

The Emmy Nominations were announced this morning and there were many surprises and omissions. On the surprise front, “Family Guy” and “Flight of the Conchords” both got nominations for outstanding comedy for the first time. On the other hand, many long-running series were overlooked, including the spectacular last season of “Battlestar Galactica”. More after the jump:

The big news is the Emmy’s changed the rules to allow six nominees in all the key categories (seven if there is a tie). What that means is a lot of shows and actors are getting first time nominations and more great shows will get to attend the award ceremony on September 12th. It’s like what the Oscar’s are doing this year as they’ve expanded the Best Picture category from 5 to 10. This should increase interest as more mainstream films might get a nomination.
