Shameless star Emmy Rossum is in final negotiations to join the adaptation of the supernatural love story Beautiful Creatures. The story centers on two star-crossed teens who uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town. Viola Davis and Emma Thompson are already signed on, and Variety reports that Rossum is poised to star as the young girl’s cousin who became a dark witch on her 16th birthday, thus turning the two girls into enemies. Beautiful Creatures is the first book in a three-book series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I’m quite surprised by the pedigree of cast signed on thus far, so this must be more than your average Twlight knock-off. Richard LaGravenese (P.S. I Love You) is set to direct, and Warner Bros. is hoping Beautiful Creatures the beginning of a franchise.

Here’s the synopsis for Beautiful Creatures:

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything. [Amazon]
