Previously-Unreleased Deleted Scene from THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK from the STAR WARS Blu-ray Box Set

     September 6, 2011

There have been plenty of complaints about George Lucas’ continued tinkering with the original Star Wars trilogy (interesting side note: aside from the CGI Yoda in The Phantom Menace, Lucas hasn’t touched the prequels), but there’s more than just defiled movies on the upcoming Blu-ray box set.  The set contains previously unreleased deleted scenes and one of those scenes has gone online. The clip shows an extended bickering/flirting between Han and Leia on Hoth.  Their conversation is more sexually overt that what made the final cut and I’m glad it was left on the cutting room floor.  It’s too much too soon in the development of their relationship and it doesn’t really fit with the overall tone of The Empire Strikes Back.

Click over to EW to see the clip.  The only way to see the deleted scenes and all of the new special features is to buy the entire Star Wars: The Complete Saga and pay extra for the prequels you don’t want.  The Complete Saga set, along with the prequel trilogy and original trilogy sets, goes on sale September 16th.

Who says I don’t want the prequels? They might not be the best movies evers, but i really think they’re just fun to watch. Lots of Jedi, Lightsaber duels and Darth Maul? Count me in!

…and they’re infinitely better than any of the garbage summer movies we got this year.

I can’t muster enough respect for you to do anything but call you and your opinion asinine. Just wow.

i can’t believe people are going to buy the same movies again. the dvds were the last time i am ever going to buy them.

It’s worth noting that Lucas *has* altered the prequel movies some, outside of the new CG Yoda in Phantom Menace. Granted, the changes are not nearly as obvious or numerous as they are in the original trilogy.

    The full list is here:

but most notably, Lucas extended the already overlong and pointless Podrace scene in Phantom Menace, he tweaked dialogue a little bit in Attack of the Clones, and changed one transition from an optical wipe to a straight cut in Revenge of the Sith.

Pretty Intense. The writing tries a little too hard, but I like the little fill in about Leia not learning to be a woman. A bit too nasty to each other, too. I’d like to see it with it in there and see how it changes the movie. It might be an even greater payoff later or it might just make the beginning feel a bit too angry between our heroes.

With all the branching and audio choices in blu-ray, we should really have a release with a whole bunch of versions of the movies. It could be fun. Let’s get the Jar Jar reduced version or the more-politically-correct-voices version. The super short prequels version with episode one reduced to about an hour and episode 2 closer to the superior IMAX cut, etc.

Uhhgg. What horrible, clunky dialog. I’m so glad it was cut. It would’ve way overstated their relationship.

I would have loved to see this kind of dialog in the prequel. Instead, we had : Meessaa! this is all Obiwan’s fault!
