Trailer and Poster for Denis Villeneuve’s ENEMY Starring Jake Gyllenhaal

     January 31, 2014

A24 Films has released a full theatrical trailer and an excellent poster for Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming psychological thriller Enemy.  The twisty premise revolves around a university lecturer (Jake Gyllenhaal) who discovers that he has a double, whom he tracks down and engages, resulting in “a complex and dangerous struggle.”  The pic earned strong marks when it played at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, and this trailer does a nice job of teasing the dark and haunting tone with which this fascinating premise is executed.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer and to check out the fantastic theatrical poster.  The film also stars Melanie Laurent, Sarah Gadon, and Isabella RosselliniEnemy debuts exclusively on DirecTV February 6th followed by a theatrical release on March 14th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Enemy:

ENEMY tells the story of a university lecturer named Adam (Gyllenhaal) who is nearing the end of a relationship with his girlfriend Mary (Laurent). One night, while watching a film, Adam spots a minor actor who looks just like him. Consumed by the desire to meet his double, Adam tracks down Anthony, an actor living with his pregnant wife Helen (Gadon) and engages him in a complex and dangerous struggle. The film is a haunting and provocative psychosexual thriller about duality and identity, where in the end only one man will survive.

Prisoners was awesome and deserved the nod for Cinematography. Hope this is as good as it looks and is more complex than the obvious ending: one of them has survived, but you don’t know which

Yes. It’s a messed up world when fully CGI’d environments (Gravity) are being nominated over movies like Prisoners which was beautifully shot in the real world.

Yeah, I had the same complaint about Life of Pi. Can the academy really be that clueless about cinematography? Visual Effect nods….of course. This? Ridiculous.

      • Clay’s Double

Life is Ridiculous. We are all a part of Life. Therefore, we are all Ridiculous.

I’m almost certain the twist will be they are the same person.

then why would the girl say “he looks exactly like you”? she’s obviously seen two different people

      • Beefdong

Maybe she’s a figment of his imagination as well.

    Premieres on directv ?
I guess that mean it won’t be eligible for any awards

    The movie looks… Intriguing
