Whose Secret Life is It Anyway?

Variety is reporting this morning that Owen Wilson, he of that most splendidly equine moniker, The Butterscotch Stallion, has landed the title role in "The New Paramount's" remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, thus supplanting Jim Carrey, for whom "The Old Paramount" had been tailoring the project for years.

It's unclear as to what prompted this sudden superstar shunting; what is clear is that, with Mark Waters directing from a Richard LaGravenese screenplay, the project hasn't been in such capable hands since Steven Spielberg flirted with it nearly a decade ago (Waters is on a two film winning streak with me after Mean Girls and the undervalued Freaky Friday redo, while LaGravenese, regardless of his recent inaction, gets a lifetime pass on the strength of The Fisher King and The Ref).

As with the 1947 version, which starred Danny Kaye under Norman Z. McLeod's steady direction, the film will be adapted from the classic story by Columbus, Ohio native, James Thurber.
