Why do studios even bother to hire Terry Gilliam anymore?

I ask this as a fan of the auteur who adores his excesses despite their tendency to make a shambles of the narrative.  That said, I can't think of too many other directors whose messes qualify as masterpieces (as Brazil and The Fisher King certainly do), so why frustrate the man whilst in production when you know you've hired him for his sui generis, out-of-control visual style?

No matter how watered down this most recent effort is, Dimension has at least cut a pretty entertaining trailer for The Brothers Grimm, which you can find here.

Gilliam fans should remain on the lookout for Tideland, Gilliam's low-budget (i.e. no studio involvement) re-teaming with Jeff Bridges, which will hopefully hit theaters sometime this fall.
