The San Diego Comic Convention is like a Roman Bath House, anything you could possibly desire can be purchased for the right price. Early this morning at the crack of dawn, okay around 9am or so, my good friend Scott came over and off we went. On to Hollywood to scoop up Mr.Beaks and Jimmy Duval. After drama and comic mishaps and a quick stop at my favorite coffee shop (thank you Coffee Bean) we were off to San Diego.

Lets skip ahead, through traffic and congestion, through food and phone drama, we arrived at the palace of geek dom. The Convention is as crazy as always, too many men and not enough A/C. Besides the minor grievances, anything you want as a fan of comic books to almost any movie and television show can be purchased in one of the biggest dealer rooms in the world. That is the reason the convention is expected to hold almost 100,000 people this year before it ends this Sunday.

Shortly after walking around for an hour or so together, Mr.Beaks went off to do some interviews, and Scott, Jimmy and I continued together to see just what this year had to offer. Tomorrow is the real beginning with all the Star Wars panels, and a bunch of major movie studios pimping their products. But Thursday is almost always about the fans, and getting a feeling for what is on the convention floor.

I know there are a lot of exclusives this year, there always are, but this year I am skipping anything like that. Maybe I’m getting older, maybe I just don’t care, but when I walk around all I want to do is see my fellow geeks dressed up. Sharing the love of sci-fi and fantasy, and all dreaming of what is to come. There are not too many places a full-on Klingon can walk hand in hand with a Slave Leia and feel right at home.

As we didn’t have much time in the dealer room, I can’t comment on a lot of stuff. Scott, the co-author of John Carpenter’s upcoming Master’s Of Horror episode, was able to buy some lobby cards from Andy Warhol’s Dracula. There was a lot of Star Wars as always, a ton of The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe stuff and a lot of random things like The Devils Rejects car from the upcoming movie. I also saw a ton of paintings and posters, t-shirts and comics, and of course a life size Optimus Prime (see photo in article).

So I have taken a bunch of photos, and rather than put them all in this one article, I will split them into two.

Some quick pix of the convention floor

Here at the covention Vader finally got Yoda, and he is keeping him locked up like a typical Star Wars collector.

And now for some pix of Wallace and Gromit on the convention floor.
