According to Production Weekly's Twitter feed (seriously, how did we ever do our jobs before this?), Leonardo DiCaprio is stepping up to star in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller, "Inception". The one downside to PW's feed is that there's not enough space for them to tell you what the film is about (although I imagine Nolan and Warner Bros. are being fairly tight-lipped about the plot details because people discovering what your films is about without the filter of marketing is the worst thing that could ever happen in the history of mankind).
As for the Nolan-DiCaprio pairing, I'm not intimately acquainted enough with their styles of directing and acting to know how they'll work together. Is Nolan an actor's director or does he just cast for the roles and have confidence that his high-profile cast will know what to do? Does DiCaprio involve himself with the filmmaking process so he can flesh out the best character possible? Here's what I do know: Christopher Nolan didn't tell Christian Bale "Dude, your Batman voice is awful, change it," and for a guy that was hitting it out of the park for a few years with "The Aviator" and "The Departed" but had a shaky last year with "Body of Lies" and especially "Revolutionary Road". Hopefully we'll see a better DiCaprio this year when he stars in his fourth Scorsese flick, "Shutter Island". I will say that it's interesting to see DiCaprio get into what will be a big summer blockbuster as opposed to his usual fare of "For Your Consideration"-flicks.
"Inception" is currently set to hit theatres on July 16th, 2010.
