Mark Millar's SUPERMAN Trilogy Won't Fly

I'm no fan of Mark Millar.  There are comic writers like Chris Claremont and Garth Ennis who I don't like but I can at least respect and appreciate their past great work of "The Dark Phoenix Saga" and "Preacher".  But I don't know what Mark Millar's ever done to become so popular.  He's not a singular voice; he's the generic voice and everything I've read of his screams that he doesn't want to say something or push the medium forwards; he wants to be popular.  He's not challenging, his writing isn't very good, and his ideas are pretty stale.

That's why I'm jumping for joy that his pitch for an eight-hour trilogy of "Superman" movies has been rejected by Warner Bros.  Writing on his site, Millar says:

“Warner’s talked to us and a few other writer/ director teams, but things seem to be in stasis right now. As far as I understand, nothing is happening with Superman at the moment and so the director and I are just working on another project. If it happens, great. If it doesn’t, no biggie. Kick-Ass taught me that creating your own stuff can be at least as much fun and you don’t have to answer to anyone. It’s the future, baby.”

Yes, baby, but we won't have to worry about you being in it as far as "Superman" is concerned.  Another positive note is that Warner Bros. is clearly weighing their options with re-launching "Superman".  I just hope they choose to take off from the get-go.  Everyone knows "Superman's" origin story so it's time to come up with an original plot where we don't waste half the film of "Superman" revealing his powers, meeting everyone at the Daily Planet, having Pa Kent die AGAIN, discovering the Fortress of Solitude, and so forth.

You are totally right
I completely agree - I've never enjoyed Mark Millar's writing. Wanted was easily the worst film I've seen in the last 10 years. In fact, I made the mistake of watching it on my ...
