Chris Pine Says Engage

Chris Pine has become the final piece of the Star Trek puzzle.  While the role of Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy remains uncast, every other major role appears to be filled with Zachary Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Eric Bana as a villain named "Nero".  While some have doubts about the film, not being a big trekkie, and looking at the cast, I think they've done pretty well.  I think Yelchin is an underappreciated talent, no one can deny the skills of Bana and Pegg, and as for the most recent addition of Pine, well I thought he was one of the best parts of Smokin' Aces.

I don't know about how real Trekkies feel or even just moderate fans of the original Star Trek feel about this cast and what J.J. Abrams may have in store for this prequel/reboot, but right now I think it looks fine.  But then again, I think The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and even Voyager are all at least passable junk food sci-fi.  Feel free to send your hate mail to matt@trekindfference.com.

The word comes from the great Joe Carnahan who talked about it on his frequently updated blog, smokinjoecarnahan.com.
