Green Lantern and The Flash Get Director’s

Don’t expect Hollywood’s love for bringing comic books to the big screen to slow down anytime soon, as each movie made continues to pile up the coffers of the studio that produces them. So with what appears to be a never ending demand from the worldwide audience for superheroes, it seems that Warner Bros. has found the next two directors for some of their future comic book movies.

According to Variety, Greg Berlanti has been signed to both direct and co-write the upcoming “Green Lantern” movie. If you aren’t familiar with Mr. Berlanti, don’t worry, he hasn’t directed a film since 2000’s “The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy.” But while he hasn’t been directing feature films, he’s been quite busy both producing and writing on TV, with shows like "Dirty Sexy Money," "Brothers & Sisters," "Everwood," "Jack & Bobby” and "Dawson's Creek."
And according to the same article, Greg will be writing the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Yeah, I don’t know what WB is thinking either.
But while this might be cause for alarm on its own, get ready to raise another red flag.

According to MTV’s Movie Blog, it seems that David Dobkin is the new director of “The Flash.” And if you don’t know David’s previous films, he did “The Wedding Crashers” and the soon to be released “Fred Claus.”
While I loved “Wedding Crashers,” I absolutely loathed “Fred Claus.” Since it hasn’t been released yet… I’ll not go off full throttle, but let’s just say it suffers from almost every problem imaginable. And with the exception of a very funny 3 minute scene, the film should be avoided at all costs. Needless to say, David is not my first choice for this project.
The other bit of news that came out of the article is the film would take place in the same universe as the soon to be made JLA movie by George Miller. He also said the “The Flash” would be Wally West.
And as I wrote back on August 1st when I did a story on “Justice League,” Warner Bros. is planning on killing off one of the JLA members in the film. Since the info is everywhere I’ll also write it here, the person dying is Barry Allen (The Flash), so David saying that his "Flash" movie will be Wally West makes a lot of sense.
So it now seems pretty clear that Warner Bros. is planning on making a “Justice League of America” movie and then separate films with all of the members on their own. While nothing else has been officially announced yet, I think it’s safe to assume this will happen.
And while I love superhero movies, the choices being made for leading these properties to the big screen make me quite nervous. I just hope these aren’t rushed properties due to the strike. Obviously a lot is happening right now, you can expect updates as I get them.
