Exclusive: Lou Taylor Pucci Video Interview

While Sundance/Slamdance happened about a month ago, I’m only now editing the final tape of video interviews that I recorded at the Festival. I know it’s a bit late…but it takes a lot of time to edit, render and post almost 7 hours of video. I hope you understand why it’s taken so long...

Now that my apology is out of the way, let’s get to my video interview with Lou Taylor Pucci.

While Lou’s name might not be that familiar to a lot of you, I’ve been a fan of his work since I saw him in “Thumbsucker”. After that film, Lou worked on a few other projects, but the next one that really caught my eye was an underappreciated gem called “The Go-Getter”. It was a road trip movie that also starred Zooey Deschanel and Jena Malone and it had some really great cinematography. If you haven’t seen it, definitely check it out.

And since that film came out in 2007, Lou’s been in a number of other films, and at this year’s Sundance Film Festival he had three movies playing including “Brief Interviews With Hideous Men”, “Arlen Faber” and “The Informers”. So perhaps Lou is on the cusp of breaking out and becoming a familiar name.

Anyway, while at this year’s Sundance Festival I got to sit down with Lou at the MySpace Café in Park City and we did a great extended interview where we talked about everything – from all the various movies he had in the Festival to what it’s like being a Judge. And what makes this interview so great is how we didn’t have to rush to try and hit the bullet points you always have to talk about…instead it was a great conversation that happened to be on camera. And with that….I hope you enjoy watching. And a big thank you to Lou for giving me so much of his time.

Lou Taylor Pucci Part 1

  • We give a plug to the MySpace Café…
  • What has been his experience at this year’s Sundance versus previous years – we talk about gifting, parties and the swag that exists at Sundance
  • He talks about the 3 movies he has at this year’s festival – Brief Interviews With Hideous Men, Arlen Faber and Informers
  • We talk about how he’s at the beginning of his career and how he got involved in the three films at Sundance
  • Tells a crazy story about how he got cast in Arlen Faber
  • How did he get to be a juror at the festival and what has that experience been like – he was judging the shorts
  • He then shows us what a juror badge looks like

Lou Taylor Pucci Part 2
  • Does the juror badge let you cut lines to see movies
  • What movies at this year’s festival did he really love – he says Push and Sin Nombre
  • He’s recently moved to Los Angeles so we talk about how that might change his career
  • We reminisce about a previous movie he did called The Go-Getter – we also talk about the cinematography
  • Digital film versus film talk
  • Does he ever want to direct
