While I had gotten the press release about the Dewey Cox seven city tour across America earlier today, I decided to wait to post it till I got home from the opening night of the tour here in Los Angeles. So what did I witness tonight at the Roxy on Sunset Blvd. just a short time ago? John C. Reilly – also known as Dewey Cox – can really sing!

While scheduled to begin at 7:30 this evening, John came out on stage around 8:30 and played for a full hour. During his performance he played a lot of the songs that I recognized from the movie and I think I few that I hadn’t heard before. He did the usual things a performer does – he talked to the crowd, drank while on stage, and tried to pick up the attractive women near the front.  It was a real performance and I have to say, a surprisingly good one. Seriously, they sounded better than some of the signed bands I’ve seen in the same building.

Anyway, Sony recorded the event and I think in a day or two I’ll have some videos for all of you to watch. When I do I’ll write a bit more on the night’s activities. The one thing I want to say after watching tonight's show is that if you can make any of the performances in the coming week, I’d make the effort, as John really does give it his all while onstage.

Below is the official press release which also lists where he is playing and how to get tickets. At the very bottom are the new clips and TV spots. And if you want even more Dewey Cox, here’s a link to some clips I previously posted. Finally, look for some new interviews with the cast and filmmakers next week....

John C. Reilly, the star of the upcoming Judd Apatow produced comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, will tour the country next month in character as his alter ego Dewey Cox, the mythic rock & roll icon whose music influenced a nation. Reilly will perform live as Dewey Cox with his band, The Hard Walkers, the scorching rock ensemble, for the year's most anticipated concert series, the "Cox Across America Tour"

Dewey Cox & The Hard Walkers will hit the road for a select seven city run of rare live performances to support the December 21 opening of the comedy, "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story."

Cox, the legendary showman and his mind-blowing band will launch their historic concert tour tonight at the world famous The Roxy of the Sunset Strip. Next up, the band will continue to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on Wednesday, December 5 with subsequent shows in Chicago, Austin, Nashville, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York's fabled Knitting Factory (see full itinerary following).

During the "Cox Across America Tour," Dewey Cox & The Hard Walkers will perform classic tracks from "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," the soundtrack album from the film of the same name.  The definitive career-spanning collection of Dewey Cox hits, "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" (Columbia Records) will be in stores and online on Tuesday, December 4.

Each of Dewey's concerts will be preceded by special screenings of "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story." Tickets to the events will be made available through local radio promotions in each of the markets where Dewey and his band are performing.   Tickets to these extraordinary Dewey Cox events are being offered to members of the Dewey Cox Fan Club (For information on all the benefits of Dewey's fan club, please visit: www.coxacrossamerica.com).

"I have loved Cox from the beginning and I will be at every show worshipping Cox from the foot of the stage."  - John C. Reilly

"Not since Duran Duran toured America in 1984 have people been so excited about a rock tour."  - producer Judd Apatow

"You're welcome, America." - Dewey Cox

America loves Cox!  In Columbia Pictures' new comedy "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," John C. Reilly stars as larger-than-life musician and songwriter Dewey Cox.  Behind the music is the up-and-down-and-up-again story of a legend whose songs would change a nation.  On his rock 'n' roll spiral, Cox sleeps with 411 women, marries three times, has 22 kids and 14 stepkids, stars in his own '70s TV variety show, collects friends ranging from Elvis to the Beatles to a chimp, and gets addicted to – and then kicks - every drug known to man... but despite it all, Cox grows into a national icon and eventually earns the love of a good woman - longtime backup singer Darlene (Jenna Fischer).

What about my dreams
